Former President Donald Trump was mocked on the internet after he offered an international politician "the keys to the White House."

On Tuesday (April 23), Trump gave out ceremonial White House keys to former Prime Minister Taro Aso during his visit to Trump Tower in New York.

Trump said it was a "great honor" to meet Aso, who has previously praised Nazis and Adolph Hitler. The former president then handed Aso the key.

According to the Washington Post, this isn't the first time Trump has handed out ceremonial keys. While he was president, Trump told key recipient Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, that he could forever use it to gain access to the White House.

“Even when I’m not president anymore, you can walk up to the front gate of the White House and present it, and they will let you in,” Trump told Netanyahu, according to the 2022 book by Jared Kushner, who previously served as a White House adviser.

Aso's key ceremony came after Trump appeared in court on Tuesday for his New York hush money case.
