Here's What To Expect During Trump's Speech To Congress

President Donald Trump is set to deliver a big speech to a joint session of Congress, per HuffPost.

On Tuesday (March 4), Trump will speak to lawmakers packed in the House chamber as Americans tune in to the president's highly anticipated speech from home, similar to a State of the Union address.

The most powerful people in government are typically present for a speech of this caliber. While the president addresses lawmakers and the nation, the House speaker and vice president, who also serves as the ceremonial leader of the Senate, normally sit behind him.

However, with Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk wielding an unprecedented amount of political power, it's unclear if the tech billionaire will be close to Trump's side as one of his top advisors. Special guests for presidential speeches often sit in the gallery above the chamber, but Musk's appearance could break precedent.

Trump could use Tuesday's speech as a way to clarify his approach to foreign policy after his dramatic meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The two met in the Oval Office and were set to solidify a partnership involving critical minerals, but the deal fell apart after Trump ripped Zelenskyy over an alleged lack of respect.

Following the meeting, U.S. support for Ukraine remains in the balance. “You either make a deal or we are out,” Trump told Zelenskyy.

The nation may also be able to expect some form of pushback from Democrats during Trump's speech as presidential speeches to Congress are typically rowdier affairs. GOP Rep. Joe Wilson previously shouted, "You lie!" at former President Barack Obama during his address to Congress in 2009. Democrats have also demonstrated during the speech, including a time when women wore white in support of the suffragette movement. Republicans will likely be vocal in their support of Trump.

Presidential speeches to Congress are often carefully crafted and scripted, but Trump could veer into his typical style of delivering freewheeling remarks and bouncing from topic to topic.

Following President Trump's address to Congress, the Black Information Network will break down his key remarks in a special episode of The Black Perspective: Addressing the Realities of Black America. Hosts Andrea Coleman and Michael Stevens will lead an in-depth discussion, featuring expert analysis, historical context, and community voices to explore the impact of his policies on the Black community. From economic policies and criminal justice reform to healthcare, education, and social justice, no topic is off the table.
